The COP Outcomes Forum 2024
Hosted by King’s College London, the Climate Action Coalition and Diplomat magazine, the COP Outcomes Forum 2024 took place on 4 December 2024 at King’s College’s Bush House on Aldwych in the West End.
Opened by The Rt Hon Chris Skidmore OBE, Chair of Climate Action Coalition, the forum provided an opportunity to dissect the agreements made at COP29, and discuss implementation and ambition over the next 12 months ahead of COP30 in Brazil. Through a combination of keynote addresses and panel discussions, the event convened the leading climate ambitious businesses, diplomats from London’s diplomatic corps and policy makers to play a useful role in crystalising how companies can help governments deliver their NDC 3.0s, due to be submitted in February 2025.
An address followed from Professor Shitij Kapur, Vice-Chancellor and President of King’s College London, and the first keynote was delivered by Professor Sir Jim Skea, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change – the UN body for assessing the science related to climate change – who shared his analysis on what climate action is required to meet 2030 climate targets set in 2015 by the Paris Agreement. Other speakers included Ambassador of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Elin Suleymanov, plus Emilien Gasc, Counsellor for Climate, Environment, Energy at the EU Delegation to the UK, as well as representatives from the City of London Corporation and Climate Impact Partners, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the London Stock Exchange, Ipsos UK and the Qatar Centre for Global Banking and Finance.

The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, the Commonwealth Secretary General spoke ahead of the closing reception, who noted how strides were made with climate finance at COP29. Yet for many vulnerable nations, she explained, progress is slow. As we head to COP30, she said “let's bridge the gap between promises and delivery, harness innovation and foster inclusive leadership.”
