Celebrate the Platinum Jubilee
at The Goring

World famous Teddy the Shetland Pony and his four-legged friend Le Corgi were guests of honour this past weekend at a tea at The Goring Hotel to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Since it opened in 1910, The Goring has been a firm royal favourite, and is today the only five-star luxury hotel in London that is owned and run by the family that built it. In the heart of Belgravia, surrounded by embassies and just steps away from Buckingham Palace, The Goring is the only hotel to have been granted a Royal Warrant for hospitality services by Her Majesty The Queen. Crafting the highest standards of hospitality for over a century, the late George Goring accepted an OBE at Buckingham Palace for ‘services to the hotel industry’ in 1990.

So, with the proximity to the palace and its strong royal connections, The Goring couldn’t be a more appropriate venue for Platinum Jubilee celebrations during this anniversary year. The hotel are celebrating in devasting style: with a glorious afternoon tea, resplendent cocktails, Coronation-inspired dishes in the Dining Room designed the Queen’s nephew David Linley, plus much more.

Being a family run hotel, The Goring really know how to keep all generations occupied and happy. Aside from photo opportunities with Teddy the Shetland and the cuddly Le Corgi, we were delighted to experience their Jubilee Afternoon Tea, a very British pastime to celebrate this royal occasion.

The exquisite menu includes Her Majesty's Royal fruit cake, classic scones with jam and clotted cream, pony shaped cookies, very British sandwiches including Coronation Cotswold chicken, and handmade sausage rolls, all topped off with Bollinger Champagne.

Tea was served in The Veranda’s pavilion overlooking the tranquil walled garden, a fabulous green oasis in the heart of the city, perfect for the younger, more active members of the DIPLOMAT magazine family, providing them with plenty of space to lark about.

In the months ahead, guests can toast to The Queen’s 70 years of service with the Jubilee Fizz or Coronation Cup Cocktails in the beautiful surroundings of The Goring Cocktail Bar, or even enjoy historic Coronation dishes that have been reintroduced to the Dining Room for another generation to enjoy, following the discovery of the very menu that The Goring created for guests in residence for Her Majesty The Queen’s Coronation in 1953.

The Goring’s Jubilee Stay promises an exquisite two-night escape encapsulating all the Platinum Jubilee excitement. Those looking to celebrate in the ultimate style might prefer the much sought-after Royal Suite, with its own unique collection of royal artefacts from handwritten letters and stationery to military regalia, and a guest cloakroom with walls lined with the same beautiful silk that graces The Throne Room in Buckingham Palace.
